Edison Home
In 1885, when Thomas Edison first visited Florida, he purchased property along the Caloosahatchee River and built a vacation home. This winter home of Thomas A. Edison, is one of the greatest historic treasures within Lee County.
The vernacular structure, completed in 1886 and dubbed "Seminole lodge" by the Edisons, clearly reiterates the inventive bend of mind of the scientific genius with several amenities that are way ahead of its time. The Chalo Nitka Festival
The Annual Chalo Nitka Festival and Frontier Days, held in Moore Haven in the first full weekend of every March is one of Florida's oldest continuous festivals, dating back to 1949 when the celebration started commemorating the completion of the paving of Main Street in Moore Haven.
Chalo Nitka means "The Day of the Big Bass" in the Seminole Indian language. It is a fun weekend filled with plenty of activities and sights that you get to see only in this part of the world, like the Dairy and Swine Show, the Steer and PeeWee Show.
There are games and goodies for kids, as well. Here, you can participate in really unique competitions like the barrel racing and bull riding.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail is a 110-mile heritage trail that circles Lake Okeechobee. The trail offers ideal bird-watching opportunities, as well as a great place for hikers and bikers to experience the second largest lake in the continental United States. Gatorama
Termed Florida's original alligator and crocodile adventure, Gatorama was started in 1957. Gatorama is an operating alligator farm as well as a tourist hotspot in Glades County.
One of Gatorama's main attractions for visitors and professional photographers is the natural Florida scenery in which these prehistoric beasts sunbathe in the warm tropical climate. Giant oak trees and palm trees cover the fifteen acre attraction. Visitors will also find other animals along the covered 1000 foot walkway and wooden bridge, monkey's, bobcats, raccoons, peacocks, ducks and geese all call Gatorama home, as do six species of crocodiles including the American Crocodile. Gatorama is the largest captive breeder in North America of the Acutus Crocodile.

Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki,‘a place to learn,’ is located on the Big Cypress Reservation and exhibits rare artifacts of the Seminole tribe and details their way of life, lived in harmony with nature in the Florida swamps and Everglades. The museum film, 'We Seminoles,' tells the story of the tribe’s dramatic struggle to remain in Florida.
Nature trails will take you throughout the beautiful 60-acre cypress dome to a living village. The grounds include various chickee dwellings and an area for playing the traditional stick ball game. The museum also has interactive computers, and a Native American gift shop.
The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is located on a beautiful 60-acre cypress dome in the Big Cypress Swamp. One-and-a-half miles of boardwalk nature trails wind throughout the lush vegetation. Signage on the trails identifies the plant life and describes traditional Seminole uses of the plants.

Billie Swamp Safari
Billie Swamp Safari, set in Big Cypress Reservation is spread over 2,200 acres of lush greenery and swamps. Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest
